If you use a Mirrorless camera in Canon’s EOS M lineup (for example the Canon EOS M50), you already know that you are limited in your lens options.
The only lenses that will fit natively on your camera are lenses made exclusively for the Canon EOS M body. Those are not always easy to find or preferable in terms of price and utility.
Enter the Viltrox EF-EOS M Lens Mount Adapter.
A lens mount adapter that can open up your EOS-M camera body to the vast library of lenses that is Canon’s EF lens lineup.
I have had my Viltrox EF-EOS M lens mount adapter for the better part of a year and in this post, I’m going to provide an in-depth review of it.
To help you figure out whether it unlocks the full potential of Canon’s EF lenses on an EOS M mirrorless camera like the Canon M50

Design and Build
The VILTROX EF-EOS M adapter is robust and its solid construction feels good in the hand.
It fits snugly between the Canon EF lens and EOS M camera body, and in the time I have been using it, close to a year now, it doesn’t wobble at all, which is a very good thing.
You don’t want to have to worry about your expensive lens falling to the ground.
In addition, the sleek black exterior paint of the Viltrox EF-EOS M mount adapter maintains a cohesive aesthetic especially if your Camera body is black like mine. Most lenses are also black so there is nothing to worry about in that regard.
Functionality and Compatibility
When you are getting a third-party lens mount adapter, your main concern is compatibility and functionality.
And I’m happy to say that the Viltrox EF-EOS M adapter impresses on both fronts, especially paired with the Canon M50, which is the Camera I use it with.
I use the Viltrox lens adapter to adapt the Canon EF 50mm F/1.8 lens to my Canon EOS M50 and so far I have no complaints.
The Viltrox lens mount adapter works perfectly with the Canon EF 50mm F/1.8 and I have used the pair to great effect as you will see with the picture attachments later on in this post.
I haven’t tried the Viltrox EF-EOS M lens mount adapter with other Canon EF lenses because I don’t currently own any other EF lenses apart from the Canon 50 mm F/1.8.
But using that as a foundation of utility and usefulness, I have no doubt the Viltrox EF-EOS M lens mount adapter would excel with other Canon EF lenses.
According to the Viltrox official website, the lens mount adapter supports a wide array of Canon EF lenses, from basic primes to complex zooms, offering great versatility to cinematographers.
In addition, the autofocus functionality on the Viltrox EF-EOS M adapter is great. In my case, it leverages Canon M50’s dual-pixel autofocus system for swift and accurate focusing.
Performance
The true litmus test for any lens adapter is its performance in real-world scenarios.
I have been using the Viltrox EF-EOS M adapter for close to 7 months and I have to say, it hasn’t skipped a beat.
I haven’t had any problems with autofocus speed or accuracy using it with my Canon M50.
In continuous shooting modes, it maintains pace with the kit lens that came with the Camera, the Canon EF-M 15-45 F/3.5- 6.3 mm lens.
Below are picture samples as well as a video sample taken using the Viltrox EF-EOS M adapter, with the Canon EOS M50 and the Canon EF 50mm F/1.8 STM lens.
